Upon entering, either by way of the mud room or the solar window
entry door, the Western portion of the open-concept main room
is the living room. On sunny Santa Fe winter days, the warm sun
fills the room with its radiance. Brick floors store the sun's
warmth to fend-off the evening chill. On snowy days, the kiva
fireplace, or electric baseboard back-up heaters and insulated
window quilts add a cozy Southwestern charm. The ceiling fan sends
the warmth downward into the room. In the summer, when the sun
is higher in the sky, the exterior awning prevents the sun from
entering directly into the house, keeping it cool and comfortable.
The Western side window along with the ceiling fan provide a fresh
air side-draft.
