Two
nice-sized bedrooms occupy the Northwestern portion of the floor
plan. Both use the passive solar concept of clear story windows
at the top of a 16' angled ceiling to a south-facing wall that adds
warmth to the rooms. In the winter, the sun streams through the
clear story and stores solar gain as it hits the back wall, which
is insulated by an earth-berm on the outer Northern wall of the
house. We have taken advantage of that 16' ceiling in the West bedroom
pictured here with the addition of a carpeted and tiled sleeping
or meditation loft that adds additonal floor space and makes for
a nice bedroom/office or office/guest room.
